Urban Garden, Salfords

The challenge here was to create a seamless indoor / outdoor space in what was a proportionally small, shady and fenced in back garden.

Landscaping: Slate grey fencing increases the sense of depth in the garden - the boundaries appear to recede - and the planting 'pops'. The tumbled mint patio reflects light into the shady space and a floating oak bench picks up on the industrial wooden table inside. The painted outdoor table and cushions pick up on the colours used in the interior soft furnishings.

Planting: Careful plant selection and soil preparation creates a garden with year-round interest despite sitting on heavy clay with substantial areas of shade. An in-built irrigation system takes care of the watering and hidden lighting means that the garden can be enjoyed at night and on short winter days, making it a true extension of the ground floor living space.
